NEW Los Angeles High School of Performing Arts

Central Los Angeles High School #9 will be the futuristic showpiece high school for the Los Angeles Unified School District system. It is a performing and visual arts magnet high school designed by famed Austrian architect Coop Himmelblau. HMC Architects is the executive architect. Eli Broad is involved in the financing of the project with LAUSD.

The artistic focus for the school will be on music, dance, performing arts and visual arts. This school is being compared to the LaGuardia Arts High School in New York with regards to its significance as a specialized public high school and its anticipated impact to further a performing and visual arts focus on a community scale within Los Angeles.

The postmodern campus looks more a lunar space station than an educational center — is completely redefining a strip of Cesar Chavez at Grand Avenue with its eye-catching architecture.

All areas of construction are on schedule for its planned late 2008 liftoff. However, we don’t expect to see young space cadets until the 2009 school year. As yet, the new school has not been given a name.

The campus will house seven buildings and a pool including a 950-seat performing arts theater, parking garage/gymnasium, library, cafeteria, and classroom buildings totaling 238,000 square feet on 10 acres! WOW!

The Ritz-Carlton

The Ritz-Carlton and the Ritz-Carlton Residences at L.A. Live will open in 2010 as part of L.A. Live sports and entertainment complex in city's downtown district.

The Ritz-Carlton Hotel Company, L.L.C. will open its third hotel in the Los Angeles area as part of the “L.A. Live” sports and entertainment development under construction in the city’s revitalized downtown area. The Ritz-Carlton, Los Angeles, a 123-room “all club” hotel will be situated on the upper floors of a 54-story tower which will also include 224 private condominiums, The Ritz-Carlton Residences at L.A. Live.

“As the centerpiece of the “L.A. Live” complex, the tower housing The Ritz-Carlton, Los Angeles will feature a metal and glass curtain wall exterior, and will consist of both vision and non-vision glass units in colors of blue and green and patterns to create a distinctive profile in the downtown skyline.

The hotel will be centrally located within the sports and entertainment campus, steps away from Staples Center, The Nokia Theater, The Grammy Museum, and an array of restaurants and nightspots. The interior will be designed by Babey Moulton Jue & Booth (BaMo). The project is under the ownership of AEG, one of the world’s leading sports and entertainment companies.
